Are you skilled in a particular subject area? Do you have a good understanding of child development? Are you a problem solver? Are you an active listener? Do you like to help children figure out their homework, guide them through questions and problems, encourage critical thinking, and reach those “aha!” moments?
Do you like to help children figure out their homework, guide them through questions and problems, encourage critical thinking, and reach those “aha!” moments?
If your answer is “yes” to any of these questions, this volunteer opportunity may be just right for you!
Tutor Training is 2 sessions, each lasting 1.5 hours.
Please sign up for session 1 and 2. Both are displayed on our website.
You will participate in discussing the foster care system. And you’ll dive deeper into :
- trauma informed-care
- the education system
- special education awareness
- expectations in tutoring
- resources for you as a tutor
After training, you will go through a comprehensive background check. Once you begin tutoring, Fostering Great Ideas will support you monthly.
Consider this opportunity if you can commit to one quarter of weekly tutor support for a student in foster care at their foster placement.
Statistically, these students have the lowest academic scores and lowest high school graduation rates of any other group. Why? They are in a point of limbo – with significant uncertainty. Yet, they are capable. Thank you for helping them to see their potential.
