At Tonight’s State of The Union Address
Putting politics aside, it is really nice when our Union can come together to support people who deserve better care. For children in foster care, we are all in one accord on this matter.
I appreciate that First Lady Melania Trump has made foster care reform a centerpiece of her advocacy. I was quite shocked when CNN contacted me today about a pretty cool invitation delivered by The First Lady to one of our former clients…
Sierra Burns is a foster alumni who embraced our supportive, relational services in foster care and as a young adult. She has also helped others along their path. Sierra is now in a master’s degree program at Furman University. The First Lady invited her as a guest for tonight’s state of the union address. If you are watching it, look out for Sierra Burns!
Here is a great, simple video from Sierra (and her cat) about her experience as a foster youth in our College Fellows program. This program is now called Aspire. In 2025, we served 134 “Sierras” with guidance that restores and inspires young people.

It is amazing what can happen when people are seen, valued, and heard.
