Meet Brittany!
Brittany James, a Horry county Caseworker with the South Carolina Department of Social Services, has been named a Local Foster Care Innovator for acts of kindness and determination to go above and beyond to support children in the Horry county foster care system.
James has been a caseworker since March, 2021, following experience working at a shelter with runaway teens. She said her reason for entering a career of social work is, “The kids. Being able to make a difference in their lives. They make it worth it.” She wants to be a part of seeing the system improve so kids don’t get lost in the system and foster care workers don’t get burnt out on the job.
Brittany was nominated for this recognition from Fostering Great Ideas by foster parent, Kelly H.
Brittany has been amazing ever since she’s first come on the case. She’s helped transport the kids to numerous appointments in Charleston. She’s transported to visits. She’s been so helpful and accommodating and we are so grateful for her!
Breanna Combs, Human Services Specialist with the SC Department of Social Services, echoed Kelly’s enthusiasm for Brittany’s compassion and care.
Brittany has proven to be an outstanding case manager. Brittany shows great compassion and care for the children and families she works with every day. Brittany is a great asset to DSS and we are so proud of the amazing work she has shown.
Nominate someone you know who is changing foster care for the better. We love to hear the amazing stories of everyday heroes who are impacting their communities – foster parents, case managers, GAL/CASA, and volunteers. There are so many that work hard (often behind the scenes) to make days a little better and brighter for children and families.
