Are you skilled in a subject area? Do you have a good understanding of child development? Are you a problem solver? Are you an active listener?

Do you like to help children figure out their homework, guide them through questions and problems, encourage critical thinking, and reach those “aha!” moments?

If your answer is “yes” to any of these questions, and you are a South Carolina resident age 18 or older, this volunteer opportunity may be just right for you!

Participants will learn and engage about:

• the foster care system
• trauma informed-care
• educational systems and special education consideration
• expectations in tutoring
• resources for you, the tutor.

After training, you will go through a comprehensive background check. Once you begin tutoring, you will be supported monthly by our team!

Consider this opportunity if you can commit to one semester of weekly tutor support for a student who has experienced foster care, either in person or virtually.

Statistically, these students have the lowest academic scores and lowest high school graduation rates of any other group. Why? They are in a point of limbo – with significant uncertainty. Yet, they are capable. Thank you for helping them to see their potential.
